2021 The Art Museum from Timișoara

Exhibition “Secret Wing„ sets out a non-historicist, non-museal reactivation of the power of contemporary art from the viewpoint of the ‘80s and the poetry.

The eighth decade of the 20th century is of paramount importance because it has produced both in the West and in the East, values of a great concentration and ethical and aesthetical intensity. Today, stunning inner and collective resources can be appropriated from this true arsenal and historic subconscious, from this ‘secret wing’ generated by means of oblivion and historical sedimentation by the productive acceleration of the contemporary art itself.

“Secret Wing„ borrows the name of a poetry book representative for one of the emblematic authors of the Romanian ‘80s Generation, the poet Mariana Marin (1956-2003), colleague with Mircea Cărtărescu and Bogdan Ghiu, in which she advanced, for a better understanding and a boosted moral resistance to totalitarianism, the idea of a political and existential identification with Anne Frank, ‘secret Wing’ designating an internal architecture by which our historical self finds the down reaching resources that the recent history of art, reflecting the ordinary history, generates and provides to us.

Articulated as a collaboration between two remarkable intellectuals, Bogdan Ghiu and Maria Rus Bojan, the exhibition comprises a selection of artworks by renowned international and Romanian artists, with a historic resonance from the standpoint of the post-modern paradigm.
